Steelhead & Salmon Report

Brule River

Douglas

10/27/97

Weather: 25-30 degrees and cloudy, with snow fluries.
Water: low, clear, and cold.
Hatches: none
Time: 10/24 - 10/26, all day.

Comments: We did pretty good concidering the water and weather conditions. All together we caught eight steelhead (21" to 25 1/2"), a 23" coho salmon, and a 26" brown. I was very shocked to have also caught a very confused 23+" female lake trout. Normally they spawn in the lake on deep water reefs, not in the river. We saw a lot of bigger steelhead that would not take any of our presentations, but at least it was nice to know there are some legal size rainbows still in the river.
