Workdays
will be begin around 8am and end around noon. These are very small feeders and should take
very little effort to clean. The brushing projects will be done when favorable weather
conditions are present. Gloves, a handsaw/chainsaw, eye protection and waders are
recommended. If you do not have these items you can still help during these projects by
tossing brush onto the bank while other members cut.
Newsletters will not be sent out for these projects. Contact and scheduling will be via e-mail only. I
will send e-mails a day or two before the scheduled project explaining where to meet and
at what time. If you would like
to receive info on these projects make sure to contact me at joekrz@verizon.net so I can add you to the Friends of
the Prairie River contact list.

April 19th - This is the next scheduled date for the Friends of the Prairie River Annual Spring Clean Up. We will meet at Hay Meadow County Park (north of Merrill on Hwy. 17) at 8:30 am. and start by cleaning our Adopt-a-Highway section followed by splitting into groups and cleaning all of the access points from Parrish down to Hwy. C. Brats, burgers and beverages will be served around noon. Possible brushing project may take place in the afternoon.
March 2005
The Friends of the Prairie River will be meeting with the landowners along the special regulations area. Current landowners along that stretch do not like the new special regulations that went into effect in 2003. DNR officials will also be on hand. The goal is to make contact with the landowners to make sure that everyone is content on both sides about the regulations on the river. Possible stream improvement projects will be discussed also.
April 2002
Statewide Trout Regulations Changes have passed at the Conservation Congress Spring Hearings and have also included an extension of the special regs section on the Prairie River. The extension of the special regs section was a proposal put in by the Friends of the Prairie River in 1999. The new regulations will extend the current special regulation section down to Hwy. CCC
January 2000
· As a result of our landowners meeting in April of 1999, there will be 2 stream improvement projects happening this summer on the lower Prairie River.
January 1999
The Wisconsin DNR has put all trout regulations on hold for 1 year due to the early season debate. Until they come up again next year, the Friends of the Prairie River will be working on ways to improve habitat in the river.
November 1998
The Friends of the Prairie River found out, after a meeting with the local DNR fish biologist, that we did not have their support for a slot limit and barbless hook regulation.
A resolution was proposed, with the support of the DNR fish biologist, that would extend the special regulation section (which is now R&H road to Hackbarth) down to the Hwy. CCC Bridge (approximately 4 miles of stream). This resolution will be voted on at the Conservation Congress hearings in April. I will post a date when it is known.
If you have regulations changes that you would like to see on the Prairie River in the near future, please e-mail your letters of concern with a name and address to joekrz@verizon.net - Remember, we can't do anything without your support!!!!!!
October 1998
The Friends of the Prairie River need your support to enforce slot limit and barbless hook regulations.
Please e-mail your letters of concern to joekrz@verizon.net
